Vinny Mauri's Chicago Marathon debut and American record chase

3 sources · 16 reports

Coverage began October 2, 2026, when LetsRun reported Vinny Mauri would debut at the Chicago Marathon, with attention on whether he could break Conner Mantz's American record. That report said he once ran 36 miles in a day at 4:56 pace on Planet Fitness treadmills, while its headline said 45 miles, an inconsistency left unresolved; it also said his marathon debut came at the Toledo Marathon in 2:05. Later reporting previewed the October 11 race, listing Jacob Kiplimo as defending men's champion and heavy favorite, with Brigid Kosgei, Sharon Lokedi and Hawi Feysa in a loaded women's field. On October 7, Runner's World said Mauri ran 2:05:54 at the Glass City Marathon in April, making him the fourth-fastest American marathoner on a record-eligible course, and described 120-to-140-mile weeks and part-time work at a running store. On October 8, Marathon Handbook reported Mauri and Charles Hicks were added to the elite field; Chicago would be Mauri's second marathon. Newer reports added Sutume Kebede to the women's field and noted 12 women under 2:20. A later LetsRun women's preview said Kosgei ran 2:14:29 to win Tokyo in March, Lokedi races a rabbitted marathon for the first time, and Emma Grace Hurley leads American entrants. No race results exist yet.
