Wei Yongli: The 10.99-Second Female 'Flying Woman' Finds It Hard to Say Goodbye

After winning silver in the women's 100m at the 15th National Games, 34-year-old Wei Yongli announced her retirement. In 2018 she ran 10.99 seconds, becoming the first Asian woman since 1998 to break 11 seconds in the 100m. She led China's women's 4x100m relay team to sixth place at the Tokyo Olympics in 42.71 seconds, a Chinese Olympic best in the event. After retiring, she will continue contributing to Chinese athletics as a university teacher.
