A very-low-carbohydrate diet promises that better fat burning reduces reliance on carbohydrates during long endurance sessions. But improved fat access does not necessarily eliminate glucose's usefulness, especially when exercise is prolonged, moderately hard, and started with limited carbohydrate availability. A randomized trial examined this question.
