Assefa Misses World Record at Berlin Marathon, Wins in 2:11:04
Tigst Assefa won her third Berlin Marathon in 2:11:04 after fading in the closing kilometers while on world record pace, having passed 40KM at 2:03. Guye Adola took the men's race in a personal best 2:02:50, while Marcel Hug won his 11th Berlin title and Catherine Debrunner claimed her third World Marathon Major win of the season.
The report captures how a near-world-record attempt collapsed in the final kilometers, with splits and margins that show both Assefa's dominance and the cost of her late breakdown.
