From refugee to Olympic rings: Swiss marathon record-holder Tadesse Abraham's running life
Swiss marathon record-holder Tadesse Abraham came to Switzerland as a refugee from Eritrea and was forced to stop running for three or four months in a refugee camp, winning the Winterthur Half Marathon (1:07:34) on his return in 2004. He gained Swiss citizenship in 2014, set the Swiss marathon national record of 2:06:40 for fourth at the Seoul Marathon in 2016, and placed seventh in the Rio Olympic marathon the same year. He now serves as a Human Safety Net ambassador, helping refugee runners integrate.
